‘Sourav Chandidas Ganguly’ popularly known as Dada, is a former Indian cricketer and captain of the Indian National team. Now He is the President of the Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI). He has a special place in the hearts of Indian cricket fans.
Ganguly is known as one of the world’s best ODI batsmen. He considered one of the greatest captains of the Indian cricket team. While batting, he earning a nickname ‘God of the Off Side‘ for his graceful stroke play through the offside.
Beginning of career
Dada born on 8 July 1972 also known as Prince of Kolkata, and Royal Bengal Tiger. He make his test debut against England on 20th June 1996 at Lords and scores a fantastic hundred in his debut match.
Ganguly makes One Day International’s debut for India on 11 January 1992 against West Indies. Currently, He is the 8th highest run-scorer in ODI’s (11363 runs) and 3rd batsman in history to cross the 10,000 run mark, after Tendulkar and Inzamam.
His performance before century in the Test debut at Lord’s in 1996 had not promising in ODI’s for India. A year later, he promoted to the top order in ODI’s, along with Sachin Tendulkar. Formed as one of the most disastrous opening pair in cricket history.

As Indian captain
He appointed as Indian captain after the match-fixing saga. he build a team around players like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Anil Kumble. A team that was formidable at home and more competitive at overseas tours.
The Padma Shri Awardee Sourav Ganguly wanted the Indian team need to play fearless cricket. His attitude towards opposition teams sometimes earned him call ups from the match referee’s, but he held on to his decision. He believed that fearless attitude would help Team India to move forward. He led India in to the final of the World Cup 2003.

Controversy with Chappell
In 2005, Greg Chappell appointed as India’s Coach in the place of Jhon Wright. The relationship between Ganguly and Chappell was not good. Chappell sent an email to the BCCI stating that Ganguly was “physically and mentally unfit to lead team India” and his behavior was not helpful for the team. Ganguly’s recent performance was also not up to the mark. This high profile drama ended when Sourav was dropped from Team India. Rahul Dravid appointed as the new captain of Team India.
However, After that controversy he made a strong come-back in team India and played some outstanding innings. He retires from international cricket on a high note in 2008. He had given an emotional farewell as captain MS Dhoni handover captaincy to him on his last test match against Australia in Nagpur.
Life after retirement
After retirement, he remained an active player in the domestic circuit and the IPL until 2012.
Dada can attract public attention like his playing days. He grabbed headlines after waving his shirt on the Lord’s balcony, coming late for the toss, sledding on opposition, during his career.
It is believed that Ganguly had a big hand in grooming some of the biggest players in Indian cricket like Sehwag, Yuvraj, Zaheer, Dhoni, and Harbhajan.
